Deeping St James County Primary School

Young carbon ambassadors at Deeping St James Primary School helped their school to scoop the School Green Award - and £500 donated by sponsor Upp Broadband.

A team of child ambassadors works on initiatives to support the whole school's awareness of key environmental issues including reducing litter, cutting electricity use and increasing recycling with bins for each classroom.

They encourage fellow pupils to make healthier snack and packed lunch choices, the school grounds have planting projects and there are plans for an Eco Clubhouse, learning about how different materials decompose. There's a competition to make a bird feeder from recycled material 'Design an energy saving message' and the annual switch-off fortnight will feature a competition and will be looking at ways to use less water.
