Deeping St James C.P. School

Inspire to learn, achieve together

Forest School

Small Groups:

I have small groups from across the school working in forest school each week.

The younger group had made obstacle courses to follow with blindfolds. They worked as a team to overcome the obstacles. This group made S’mores on the fire that Oliver lit and made a guttering track for a rubber duck to travel along. I have left messages from one of the groups for our resident Goblins. They hope for a response. See this space.

The older group of children has been learning how to safely use sheath knives and Bow saws. They are in the process of making mallets to use in the Forest School.

Year 5:

Year 5 started this term sessions learning to make ‘Lean to’ shelters and baking bread over an open fire practising their fire safety as they do so.

They have made natural filters for water using materials in the forest. The children explored different methods, but Mr Bell still would not drink the end results.

Reception's:

Reception children have worked well in the forest school over the last couple of weeks. The experiences they have had included children making nests for eggs, leaf printing using hammers and making s’mores on the fire after learning how to safely be near fires. The children have also learnt to whittle sticks with potato peelers and have worked cooperatively with their classmates.
